It appears that the common answer is to just IP to the switch. If I don't know the IP address on the switch, how do I do it? How do I assign an IP address to it without accessing it? The reason I was looking for the 3COM tool was to be able to access and assign an IP address to the switch.

Maybe a little more info will help. This switch was previously managed at a different account. They were retired and set on a shelf for a couple of years. We purchased the surplus inventory and would now like to use the switch. It may have previously been assigned an IP address that we have no way to recover. Specifically, how will I access the switch. From what I am reading on Compaq's site, it looks like the switch must be RMA'd to recover the password as it requires a special cable. Can anyone confirm this?
