I have a Francotte.12 ga sid by side serial number 6198 (on the lower barrel rib and lower receiver) but with no date. The style appears to be from some time between 1940-1950 but I am just guessing. It is marked on top on the rib with the following: 8420 A. Francotte Paris France B. Kitteredge & Co. Free Program Serge Gainsbourg Best Of Rar. There are also some manufacturer marks with AF and a crown in several places.
Ther is a mark above the beavertail that is the AF crown symbol and the number 316 surrounded on the sides by the words FRANCOTTE and BREVETE. I assume that the AF crown symbol is the Auguste Francotte signature mark. The gun is marked with the E over LG so I know it was made in Belgium. The right barrel is hand stamped with 2525, the E over LG, and a different AF crown symbol.
The right barrel has just one 25, the letters JLF close together like initials, the number 19.4 (or 194 not clear), and another AF Crown symbol. Between the barrels on the lower rib is the serial number (6198) and the number 7522 GB 10. Can anyone tell me when this gun may have been made or imported to the US, or any other data about this gun? I found your post when I was searching the web for information about a Francotte 10Ga. Sony Vaio Web Camera Driver Windows 7. It is an external hammer Damascus barrel shotgun. I haven't had any luck finding information about this type of firearm. Here is what I know about it. My dad's uncle (my great uncle I guess) bought this shotgun from Abercrombie & Fitch in the 1930's.
It is my understanding that Francotte made these for Abercrombie and Fitch exclusively. My great uncle used it to hunt ducks and geese. When he died in the 1960's my dad inherited the shotgun. When my dad died in 1981 I became the owner. It is in good condition but since it is Damascus and used black powder shot shells it has some barrel pitting.
